One more from the shoot; this time taken with a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 (my standard lens). The flash sync speed was set at 1/20th of a second by mistake (not a huge error). The short flash duration of my Elinchrom units ensured a blur-free picture.

Sarah was part of a very productive shoot. She's a beauty; but you're going to have to take my word for it, as the angle it was shot at makes it a little difficult to verify the fact beyond any unreasonable doubt. The picture was taken with a Canon 85mm f/1.2 at maximum aperture, this lens is a challenge to use but it certainly does deliver the goods. Make-up by Ruidah .

These Green Woodpeckers seem to spend much of their time on the ground rummaging through grass, probably looking for insects to eat. That might explain their green feathers but the red crest still puzzles me.

I am totally new to this aspect of photography. A step-ladder got me high enough above the yellow rape flowers to capture this view (I think I should have got closer to that tree). I shot RAW and opened the files in CS3 for processing. I was impressed, initially, by the sunlight filtering through the clouds and illuminating sections of the field but I think the picture could do with a stronger central element.

This junior gymnast is performing an L-seat hold, suspended approximately nine feet from the ground. Needless to say, I had to find a high enough position to shoot from, in order to get that face-to-face effect. But I did wonder if there was enough contrast between the gymnast's skin and the dark-blue background, or even if there needed to be a contrast ...problems, problems.

Chaka Khan live at the Hammersmith Odeon. Shot on Kodak VR 400, the most sensitive colour film available at the time (before the release of VR 1000). As usual, I uprated to 800 ISO in order to have any chance of a decent shutter speed. To think all this goes back several years before the first Canon EOS camera came into being! This image was scanned from 35mm film, and has had no additional processing.
